How to Get a Gold Star

Coach Carey Kepler - who is a wife, mother of 2, entrepreneur, CrossFit Coach, CrossFit Women Leader, CrossFit Endurance Leader, Ironman Competitor, Boston Marathon Qualifier, CrossFit Games contender and all around amazing woman - agreed to check my food logs once a week. Carey gives out gold stars when you follow the Zone. Whether it's for your breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snack you can get a gold star. If you don't follow the zone you get red ink on your paper with suggestions of what you should be eating. I'm terrified of the red ink!!!! I quickly learned the best way to get a gold star - pack your lunch and snacks in containers and bags to keep yourself honest!

We are all creatures of habit, when we find something that works we stick with it! The above lunch & snacks is a perfect example of this notion. I eat mostly the same thing throughout the day with some variations here and there. My gold star goes something like this

Snack: (2 Block)
1 String Cheese
1 oz tuna
1 Plum
1/2 cup of grapes

Lunch: (2 Block)
2 oz of turkey
1 orange
6 almonds

Snack: (2 Block)
2 oz of turkey
6 almonds
1 cup of strawberries
1/2 cup of grapes

Lately I've given up cheese (scary!) It's by far my favorite food and it's time to see if I can do without it for a little while. So I will sub turkey, salmon, or tuna for string cheese.

Yay for you, Nicole. Buckling down on the zone continues to be a challenge for me. But doing and trying are two different things - and I have to remind myself of that everyday.
